Zelda

“You need to get out of here!”

The words were spoken in a pleading way that was unusual for me to hear coming from Zelda. She was usually a light-hearted person, always with a smile on her face. The look I was getting now was one of terror and worry.

“Zelda, babe…What…?”

She shivered slightly. “I don’t have time to explain everything right now. I’ll sum it up: our experiment worked on the test rats. But I was accidentally exposed to the rays. The effects will start in approximately…” She looked at her phone. “…Three minutes and seven seconds.” She looked at me and then pulled me up from the couch. “Please hurry Josh!”

Zelda worked in a lab that was attempting to perfect a device called the Mass Magnifier and Multiplier. Or Triple M. It took almost all of her spare time, but when we had started dating, I had known what I was in for. I didn’t let her commitment to her job hinder us. She was there for me when I needed her most: the death of my brother last year.

I had been inconsolable when it happened, and nearly killed myself in the process. He had been the only family I had left, and his death left quite a hole. She had saved me from that dark time. I could never leave her now.

She tried turning me to the door, but I planted my feet and turned to face her. “Zelda.” I took her hands in mine. “Relax, babe.” I put my arms around her. “You have been here for me in my times of trouble. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I left you now at your time of need?”

She struggled in my arms and pulled back. “That is stupid, Josh! When these effects happen, it could cause severe problems. I could…” she swallowed hard, her eyes filling with tears. “I could kill you!”

I approached her again, wiping tears from her eyes. “I don’t care, Zelda. I am not leaving you. If you didn’t want me to be here with you, why didn’t you stay at the lab?”

She huffed and turned away, stomping across the floor. “The lab is full of rats the size of cars. When I left, they were smashing through walls. I didn’t want to cause any more damage. I...I’m not really sure why I came home.” She looked at her phone again, and then rushed back towards me, falling on her knees. She grabbed the hem of my shirt, almost violently. “I admire what you are doing here, but I will never live with myself if I…” She groaned and slid back from me. “I-it’s starting…”

I stood my ground as her body seemed to convulse before my eyes. She gasped as her whole body shook. I wanted to go to her and take her in my arms, but I was simply too shocked to move as her body seemed to swell.

It was barely noticeable at first. I noticed her sleeves were riding up her arms slightly; the same with her pant legs. The buttons of her shirt were straining slightly, and even her neck-length hair had grown down to her shoulders.

Even though she was still shaking, she rose to her feet. As she approached me, it blew my mind that she was taller now. We were now able to see eye-to-eye as she grabbed my arms.

“Josh! Why are you still here?” As she held me, her head raised slightly higher. A button popped from her shirt, exposing a small square of her cream-colored skin. She looked down at it the same time I did. “Shit. I am definitely growing. But I don’t understand why it is so much slower for me than it was for the test rats.”

I kissed her chin, since it was directly level with my lips for the time being. Even in this time of trial, her mind wandered towards scientific study.

As two more buttons popped, and the legs of her pants started to shred, she pushed me back. “I’m serious, babe. I want you to get outside of the house. If I were to collapse the house on you, I don’t know how I would live with myself.”

I looked up at her, as she neared seven feet in height. “Do you really think you will get that big?” I turned and left the room.

I heard her breathe a sigh of relief as I left. She probably thought I was leaving the house, but I was only preparing for what might happen.

I came back to the living room with a helmet on my head, and goggles over my eyes. She looked down at me in horror. I came up to her and wrapped my arms around her again, my face pressed against the soft flesh of her stomach. “I’m not leaving you.”

While I had been gone, her growth had not abated in any way. She had lost some of her clothes in the process, now standing in what could essentially be considered rags. Rags never looked so good on anyone though. She had been beautiful before, but she was more of a bombshell now, almost seeming to glow where she stood.

“DAMN!” she swore as her head smacked the ceiling. The thunk seemed to cause a chain reaction as the last stitches of her clothes tore off her, falling like confetti around me.

I looked up at her towering form as she had now reached nine feet in height, her head starting to brush the ceiling. My eyes were level with the underside of her prodigious breasts. I stroked the soft silk of her under boob as I wrapped my arms around her still growing form.

She looked down, trying to see me beneath her jutting chest. “Babe, you aren’t going to leave me, are you?” her voice was whisper-quiet.

“Never.”

I pulled back from her and looked at her face. A shy smile was starting to form there, and I realized that I had finally gotten through to her. She crouched down, giving me a lovely view as she did so and wrapped her arms around me. She kissed me passionately as I felt her swell larger.

“Babe,” she whispered in my ear. “Let me hold you close as I grow…That way I can protect you.” She pressed my face into her massive breasts, keeping me from answering her.

The sounds of creaking followed, as she apparently was brushing the ceiling again at her crouched position. “Shit,” she purred, dropping me from her grasp as she attempted to get in a more comfortable position.

I took the time to take in the view and the condition of the rest of the house. The floor seemed to be sagging beneath her feet, and the ceiling was now patterned with cracks that seemed to twist in every direction. Small bits of plaster drifted down like snow as she attempted to stand up somewhat.

Her back was pressed against the ceiling, leaving her in a stance that resembled someone bowing deeply. Her breasts hung down above my head, as if they were a fruit ripe for the picking. The cracking sounds grew louder as she pressed tighter and I knew it wouldn’t be long for the house…

She smiled down at me. “Babe, come close. I am about to break…”

Suddenly, she vanished! Or so it seemed. Amidst the still snowing plaster, was a slightly different shade of creamy white: a small humanoid shape. I ran forward to catch it, knowing in my heart that it was Zelda.

The pressure she had exerted only moments ago had apparently been too much. The ceiling started to cave in as I ran forward, my hands outstretched to catch the now miniature women as she fell. It may have been my imagination, but I almost felt like I could hear her screams as she plummeted.

Catching her in my grasp, I ran towards the door, the house collapsing around us as I carried my precious treasure in my hands. I barely made it out as the house caved in completely. I collapsed in the yard on my knees, finally taking the time to check on my small passenger.

She slowly stood up in my hands, revealing her new height of four inches. While she had shrunk, the other changes that had taken place seemed to have remained. Her figure was a lot curvier than I was used to, and her hair ran down her back, ending just above her butt.

“Josh?” Her voice had more of a squeak as she looked up at me questioningly. “What…What happened to me? I should be huge right now!” She looked at the ruined house. “You…I tried to protect you, and in the end, you saved me!”

“If I were to let the house collapse on you, I would never forgive myself,” I replied, throwing her earlier words back at her.

I held her up to my face, and kissed her with my massive, to her, lips. “Zelda, babe. I…I don’t know how this happened. Apparently, the tests you have been doing are not ready for human trials.”

She sighed. “Great. Not only am I four inches tall, with most likely no way to get back to normal, but I am also a failure.” She looked up at me with tears in her eyes. “How could you ever love a speck like me?”

I smiled at her and held her up to my cheek. “My love for you is bigger than what you were just a few moments ago. I’ll love you, no matter what size.”

* * *

A lot has changed in our life together over the last few months.

Zelda and I are closer than ever, and I don’t just mean when we go to bed at night. She often says the feel of my gentle heartbeat works almost like a massage, helping her sleep. Thank goodness I always sleep on my back.

Even though the lab was destroyed, Zelda has continued work on her research. So far, she has been able to grow herself back to a height of one foot. She very rarely leaves the house, knowing her appearance would form a lot of questions. I have told her she doesn’t have to focus all the time on her work; that I love her no matter how big she is. She just smiles at me when I say this and then returns to her work. I know she really wants to have children, but the size difference has put the kibosh on that for now.

Maybe someday.
