These are the first-place winners in each contest, presented for convenience's sake only. All the stories are worth reading, of course! One of the contest's conditions was that if you submitted a story, you had to read all the stories and provide feedback. Stories were rated in aspects of writing (best opening line, well-developed character, etc.) and in how well they embodied the theme of each contest. These were usually only rated by the other contestants, perhaps a few other readers, so two or three votes could really decide the rank of a story.
It's important to remember the contests were not about winning. It was hoped that writers would receive useful feedback, both compliments and things to think about for next time. Even if a story didn't place, it was still a complete story that hadn't existed before the contest and something to be proud of.
